Why Shaykh

Meet Shaykh Abdul Majid.

Firstly, I thank Allah who has given me the opportunity to be part of this wonderful Ummah of the Prophet Mohammed s. I was born to a mix raced family, my mother being a revert to Islam and my father of Pakistani descent. Growing up an a dual-heritage family was enriching as I learnt a lot from 2 different cultures and religions from both my families. Additionally, I also learn to be multi-lingual speaking Urdu and Punjabi. Later, I also learned Arabic and thankfully this has added to my being able to relate to a wide range of society.

I got into some crazy experiences and got into some very bad company in my youth years (something I have zero regrets about as this helps me engage with the youth and young). And after failing at school, and getting expelled from 2 other colleges, with zero qualifications, at age of 19, I decided to make a U-turn once and for all and after travelling to India and Pakistan for Dawah and learning related pursuits, I decided I wanted to dedicate my life to the teaching and learning of Islam and give something back to society. I returned from Pakistan, and I worked scrubbing dishes, working in a warehouse, packing, whatever I could do to save the money before I left to go and enrol at a world-renowned Islamic seminary in South Africa, and thereafter to Pakistan. I then pursued Islamic studies and education locally in UK where I qualified as an Imam in 2008. Thereafter, in September 2008 I finished a master’s degree in Islamic Banking and finance.

Although my heart was initially inclined to Finance, my heart was inclined to work for the betterment of mankind in a different way. I was very fortunate to be able to be offered a position as an Imam within my local mosque and served as the resident Imam and Headteacher. I remained there thankfully till 2011. After leaving the mosque till today, I have been, and still heavily involved in teaching, lecturing, consultancy and also counselling. I have also travelled internationally and still regularly visit and deliver lectures throughout UK and have spoken to many different communities. I have a drive and passion to help people develop the lives they want to live and create and sustain loving and resilient relationships and have set myself on a mission to leave the world in a more loving and caring place. In 2015, I decided I wanted to dedicate my time in becoming an accredited counsellor and therapist and then embarked on a four-year course to get a professional diploma where I graduated in Aug 2019. I was also privileged in being a teacher and a mental health lead for a school till 2021.

I have always believed that to create the best society, our family life and relationships form the backbone of society. I felt the drive to specialise more and focus on becoming a relationship and family therapist for the benefit of the mankind, and thankfully, graduated from this too in Oct 2022. Since May 2022, I was very fortunate to be working in a position where I help people in building their lives in a more positive way providing psychological and well-being support including lifestyle choices and family interventions. You can watch more content of mine online where I strive to make faith relevant to the modern day, helping people to connect to their inner-selves and families and ultimately to their creator. Why not also join me on this journey and help spread this message?
